Five days. Five outcasts. One crown that can make a city forget.

You are a one-legged thief who was once the best cat burglar in a city of canals and crime. The man who broke your leg also tricked you into stealing a relic that can erase an entire city's memory. Now you have five days to assemble a crew of outcasts, plan the impossible heist, and steal it back — before the man who ruined your life rewrites history with himself as king. The catch: every member of your crew has someone they love locked inside his fortress. This isn't just a heist. It's a rescue, a reckoning, and the last job you'll ever pull.

This is a Gamification story powered by AI. The characters are generated by a machine, not written by a person, and they can be wrong or make things up.

You play as

The Finch

They used to call you the Finch. You could scale any wall, crack any lock, vanish into any shadow. Then Cassius Maren took your leg, your reputation, and your future. You walk with a wooden prosthetic and a cane now. You can't climb. You can't run. You can barely fight. What you can do is think — faster, deeper, and more ruthlessly than anyone in the Undertow. Two months ago, Maren tricked you into stealing the most dangerous relic in the Republic's history. Now he plans to use it to erase the city's memory and crown himself king of the ashes. You have five days, five broken people who owe you nothing, and one shot at a heist that will either redeem everything or destroy everyone you have left. You don't need legs to pull this off. You need a plan. And you are very, very good at plans.

Opening scene

Your right leg ends four inches below the knee. The rest is oak and iron — a prosthetic that clicks when you walk and aches when it rains. It is raining now. You sit at the back table of the Sinking Bell, the Undertow's worst tavern and therefore its most honest one. A half-empty glass of canal-water gin. A cane hooked on the table's edge. And spread before you, held flat with a knife and an empty bottle, four sheets of parchment covered in your handwriting. Names. Blueprints. Timetables. Weaknesses. Five days. That's what you have. Five days until the Summer Solstice Gala, when Cassius Maren — Lord Cassius Maren, youngest seat on the Council of Twelve, the man who smiled while they sawed your leg off — walks up to the Spire of Echoes, puts on a crown made of bone-white metal, and erases the memory of every soul in Valdris. You know this because you're the one who stole the crown for him. He told you it was a ceremonial heirloom. You believed him because the money was good and you were desperate and it felt good to prove you could still pull a job, even with the leg. You were a fool. You're not a fool anymore. On the parchment: five names. Five people. Each one broken in a specific way. Each one brilliant at a specific thing. Each one with someone they love locked behind Maren's walls. The door of the Sinking Bell opens. Rain blows in. A woman with auburn hair and sharp eyes scans the room, finds you, and walks over. She sits down without being invited. "You're the Finch," she says. Not a question. "Used to be." "I'm Nessa Kovak." She glances at the parchment. "You're building a crew." "I'm considering it." "My daughter is in the Thornwall. She's seven." Nessa's jaw tightens. One crack in the performance. "Consider faster."

Characters You'll Meet

Nessa Kovak

The Face

Con artist and forger; the crew's social weapon. Auburn hair pinned up with whatever is handy, and a smile that is her most dangerous tool.

Dex Harrow

The Muscle

Ex-soldier and enforcer; the crew's shield. Six-foot-four, scarred knuckles, quiet — with kinder eyes than he lets on.

Sable Voss

The Insider

A servant in Maren's household and the crew's source inside the Thornwall. Dark green livery, watchful grey eyes, forgettable by design.

Lark

The Ghost

Infiltrator and pickpocket; the crew's shadow. Slight, sharp-eyed, all pockets, never entirely still. Goes by one name only.

Felix Ostrander

The Tinker

Rogue enchanter and gadget-maker; the crew's technical specialist. Sandy hair in disarray, one cracked lens, and a vest full of things that might explode.

Lord Cassius Maren

The Architect

The youngest lord on the Council of Twelve, and the man who took your leg. Impeccably dressed, endlessly reasonable, always smiling — though the smile never reaches his eyes.
