AI Disclosure
Version 1.2.1 · Effective 22 October 2026
Read Pulse uses artificial intelligence in a limited and deliberate way. This page explains where AI appears, when you are interacting directly with AI, what data is processed, the limitations of AI and how to report a problem.
1. How Read Pulse uses AI
The key point
The officially published story catalogue on Read Pulse is written, edited or produced by people under the editorial control of Read Pulse. Gamification (AI-powered) is a separate, optional interactive feature; AI is not used to produce the official published catalogue.
| Feature | Uses AI? | How it is used |
|---|---|---|
| Gamification | Yes | Generates interactive responses in real time. |
| Safety checks in Gamification | Yes | Classifies input/output to help block certain inappropriate content. |
| Gamification session summaries | Yes | Creates background summaries to maintain the continuity of long conversations. |
| Search, Recommendations, CYOA, Rank, Prediction | No | These features currently use ordinary logic/algorithms, not an LLM. |
Read Pulse’s current AI provider is Anthropic, accessed through its API. Read Pulse may change model or provider in the future; if such a change significantly affects how data is processed or the user experience, this page and the related policies will be updated.
2. Content written and edited by people
This content is written, edited, produced and controlled by people under the editorial control of Read Pulse.
Responses in Gamification are different: they are generated in real time on the basis of the scenario, the characters, the session context and the content the user enters. Each individual Gamification response is not reviewed in advance by a human editor before it is shown to the user.
Read Pulse uses automated safety checks and may allow authorised personnel to review Gamification data where necessary for support, safety, moderation, incident investigation or legal compliance.
3. When you are interacting directly with AI
Gamification is an optional feature. You can use the ordinary reading features of Read Pulse without using Gamification.
Before you start an Gamification session, Read Pulse displays information telling you that you are about to interact with AI. During the session, the interface continues to display an AI label or notice to help you distinguish AI-generated responses from published story content.
- AI characters are not real people and do not have human emotions, consciousness or beliefs.
- Responses are generated dynamically and may change according to what you enter or the context of the session.
- You are not required to use Gamification in order to continue reading or to use other parts of Read Pulse.
4. Limitations of AI
- AI can produce content that sounds plausible but may still be wrong, fabricated, inconsistent or out of keeping with the canon of the story.
- AI may misunderstand your intention or the context.
- AI may produce repetitive, inconsistent or unsuitable responses.
- AI may refuse certain requests because of safety rules, even where the story concerned is rated 18+.
- AI output does not represent the views, commitments or statements of fact of Read Pulse.
- Gamification is not a source of medical, legal, financial, safety or other professional advice.
- AI responses are not necessarily unique; other users may receive identical or similar responses.
That said, with the safeguards we have put in place, Gamification still produces engaging stories that keep readers following along.
5. Data and privacy when using AI
In order to create and maintain an Gamification session, Read Pulse may send the AI provider the data necessary to generate responses, run safety checks and maintain context.
- The content you enter in the current turn.
- The persona or character details you actively provide.
- The scenario, setting, characters, author instructions and example dialogue relating to the Gamification.
- Recent conversation turns and the session summary, where needed to maintain continuity.
- Input or output content may be sent separately through an AI system for safety checking.
- Longer transcripts may be processed to create a background summary of the session.
Read Pulse does not deliberately include your email address, date of birth, Read Pulse account ID, guest identifier or ordinary reading history in the AI request used to generate a response. However, if you yourself enter personal or sensitive information into a persona or a conversation, that content may be sent to the AI provider as part of the request.
Do not enter sensitive information unless it is necessary
You should not enter passwords, financial information, health data, precise addresses, identity documents or other sensitive information into Gamification.
5.1. Retention of Gamification data
Read Pulse stores Gamification sessions and turns in order to maintain the conversation, let users continue a session, provide the data export/deletion functions and support safety, moderation or incident handling.
- Signed-out guests: Gamification data is kept for a maximum of 90 days from the most recent activity, after which it is deleted by the Read Pulse retention mechanism.
- Signed-in users: Gamification data is kept until the user uses the Clear My Data function, deletes their account, or Read Pulse has another basis to delete it under the Privacy Policy.
- Signed-in users can export their Gamification data through the Download/Export My Data function where that feature is supported.
- Some data may be kept for longer to the extent necessary for backups, safety, legal obligations or dispute resolution, in accordance with the Privacy Policy.
5.2. AI provider
Read Pulse currently uses Anthropic as the AI provider for Gamification. Under Anthropic’s policies currently in force for the Anthropic API and its commercial products, inputs and outputs are not used to train models by default. Anthropic also states that standard API data is automatically deleted from its backend systems within 30 days, unless otherwise agreed, unless the data needs to be kept longer to enforce its usage policies, or unless the law requires it.
Anthropic’s retention period is independent of how long Read Pulse keeps Gamification data in its own systems. Read Pulse will update this page if there is a significant change of provider or in how AI data is processed.
6. AI labels and content ratings
Read Pulse uses AI labels or notices at the appropriate points so that users know when an experience involves AI. The AI label on a story card or in the Gamification interface serves to distinguish Gamification from novels and from CYOA stories, which do not use AI.
The content rating of a story and the safety rules of the AI are two separate layers. A story may be rated All Ages, Teen 13+ or 18+, but Gamification still applies its own safety limits.
An 18+ rating does not mean the AI will generate every kind of 18+ content
For example, a story rated 18+ may still have an Gamification that refuses certain requests which the AI safety system does not allow.
7. Safety, moderation and reporting
Read Pulse uses several layers of protection for Gamification, including system rules and automated checks on certain inputs and outputs.
These measures may block or refuse certain content, such as sexual content involving minors, certain sexually explicit content, instructions for serious real-world harm, or requests aimed at defeating the safety mechanisms.
No automated moderation system is perfect. AI may wrongly block appropriate content or fail to catch inappropriate content. A blocked turn may still be stored together with moderation information, to the extent necessary to operate and protect the service.
The safety checks in Gamification do not replace the Read Pulse moderation process for accounts and community content. Moderation decisions affecting an account or community content are handled in accordance with the Terms of Service and the Read Pulse moderation process.
If you encounter an inappropriate AI response or problematic content, or you want to report an AI-related incident, please contact:
8. Changes and contact
Read Pulse may update this AI Disclosure when AI features, providers, safety rules, data handling or legal requirements change. If a change significantly affects how users interact with AI or how AI data is processed, Read Pulse may provide appropriate notice on the website or in the Gamification interface.
This AI Disclosure should be read together with the Read Pulse Privacy Policy and Terms of Service. Any questions about Gamification, AI data, safety or AI-generated content can be sent to [email protected].
Version history
Version 1.2.1 — 22 October 2026
Updated the content rating names: Mature 18+ and Explicit 18+ are now a single 18+ rating. The AI safety rules are unchanged.
Version 1.2.0 — 13 October 2026
Removed the sentence saying AI is used only in Gamification, the "Published stories/chapters" row of the feature table, and the sentence saying published stories and chapters are not generated by AI. The remaining sentence now reads that this content is written, edited, produced and controlled by people.
Version 1.1.0 — 29 September 2026
Renamed the story types to Novel, CYOA and Gamification. Gamification is the feature formerly called AI Roleplay; it still uses AI and nothing about how it works or what data it uses has changed.
Version 1.0.0 — 22 September 2026
First published AI Disclosure, from the business-drafted 1.0 text: where AI is and is not used, the human-written catalogue, when you are talking to AI, the limitations of AI, what is sent to the provider and how long AI Roleplay data is kept, AI labels versus content ratings, safety and reporting, and contact.
