About this story
Story Overview
Twelve rules. Three nights. One minute is missing.
You return to college after summer break and the PA system starts broadcasting survival rules that make no sense — until people start dying for breaking them. A spider-thing with a human face crawls outside your eighth-floor window. A woman who is not your RA knocks on doors at midnight, and everyone who opens theirs disappears. The cafeteria is serving a new dish that no one should eat. Some rules will save your life. Some are traps designed to kill you. You have three nights to figure out which is which — and one minute is missing from every clock.

You play as
The Quiet Thinker
You are a junior at Whitmore College — smart, observant, and the kind of person who reads the fine print. Your roommates joke that you're the one who actually reads the syllabus. When the PA system starts broadcasting impossible rules on the first night of fall semester and something with too many legs appears at your eighth-floor window, your roommates look at you. They always look at you when things go wrong. You don't have weapons. You don't have powers. You have a student handbook, a phone with no signal, and an instinct that something about the timing of everything is one minute off. Three nights. Twelve rules. One of them is the way out — if you can hear it through the static.
Opening scene
The PA system crackles at 10:29 PM — one minute before lights-out, which you think is odd but don't say so — and a voice you've never heard begins reading rules. "After lights-out, please do not make noise in the dormitory." You set your washbasin down quietly. Your roommate Jamie is standing by the door, toothbrush in hand, one eyebrow raised. "Before sleeping, remember to close windows and doors. Nothing outside the window will be watching you. If something is, please remain silent and do not disturb it." Mina, on the bed nearest the window, slowly pulls her blanket up to her chin. "If you hear a cry for help after lights-out, do not attempt to help the unfortunate rule-breaker — or you may be subject to the same punishment." The voice cuts out. Static. Silence. Jamie laughs — loud, forced. "What the hell was that? Some prank from the tech bros in the Communications building?" You don't laugh. You look at your phone. Top left corner: no signal. The Wi-Fi icon is gone. It is 10:29 PM and your phone says it is 10:29 PM, but the lights-out bell hasn't rung yet, and lights-out is supposed to be at 10:30. One minute early. Mina's voice, very small: "Should I close the window?" Outside, lightning flashes. For one second, the room is bright. In that second, you see — or think you see — something at the bottom corner of the window. A shape. Dark. Round. Like the top of a head. You are on the eighth floor.

Characters You'll Meet
Jamie
The Brave One
Jamie Torres, your boldest roommate. Athletic, dark curls pulled back, an oversized hoodie — first to act, first to argue, and the last one who would ever leave you behind.
Mina
The Frightened Heart
Mina Park, your most timid roommate. Small, with long black hair she hides behind when she's scared — and a habit of noticing what everyone else misses.
Becca
The Practical Survivor
Becca Holloway, your most level-headed roommate. Tall, freckled, messy bun, permanently a little exasperated — the one who packs emergency ramen and a first-aid kit.
The Crawler
The Thing at the Window
A shape outside your eighth-floor window. A human head. Long, thin limbs — too many of them.
